Over the weekend of November 26-28, Newtons Nation 2010 took place at Bathurst’s Mount Panorama, Australia. The inaugural Newton’s Nation (formerly Newton’s Playground) offered up three days and two nights of IGSA World Cup Downhill Skateboarding (Longboarding) with the worlds toughest competitors. Team Rayne showed up to strong as ever with our top riders showing top race form – even in the rain!
In the Open Downhill timed qualifying runs it was Dalua taking 1st and K-Rimes in 4th and under one second apart. Brianne took 3rd in the Womens Downhill Qualifying. But qualifiers are just the warm up and racing got sloppier as the weekend went on with wet weather even cancelling some Newtons day 3 events.
Australian Skateboard Racing Association changed up the race format this year to create more race action for the riders and spectators. Working with the IGSA, the new format uses head-to-head timed qualifying positions to create two separate brackets and the top 30 finishers in each bracket automatically earn a place in the 64 rider final with 4 “Repacharge” bracket races getting the final four qualifying spots.
At the end of the day, K-Rimes took 1st in the Open Downhill, with Brianne taking 2nd in the Women’s Downhill, in the rain with very difficult, slippery conditions.
Congrats to everyone who showed up for Newtons 2010 and battled the course, the weather and each other!!
