Gerard Cancio took first place at the Rimba Alam Downhill Jam this year! We were lucky enough to get a quick write up from him. Here's what he had to say:

Last weekend capped off the first official downhill skateboarding race organized in Malaysia. The Rimba Alam Downhill Jam (or RADJam 2013 for short) was a 2-day event held last June 22-23 at Putrajaya Malaysia, organized by the local group TFY skate.

The event pooled some of the best riders in Asia, with competitors from Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, and even with Canadian local Justen Ortiz in attendance having been at the tail-end of his Asian skate tour.

Aptly named, Rimba Alam (which translates to natural jungle) sets the 1.2 kilometer race hill on an access road near the jungle. It was a fairly manageable hill, perfect as it did not scare away the new riders but still kept it interesting for racing. The run starts steep and fast into a sharp right which ended up being the crash corner for most racers. A series of sweeping turns follows where most of the passing and drafting happened, then ends on a short straight away with just enough room to shut down before hitting the highway.

It was pretty straightforward with day 1 consisting of freeride and practice runs in the morning, then timed qualification runs and a slide jam in the afternoon. Day 2 was dedicated to all the racing for both A and B classes. The official results for Rimba Alam Downhill Jam 2013 are as follows:

Champion: Gerard Cancio - Philippines

1st Runner up: Justen Ortiz - Canada

2nd Runner up: Dandoy Tongco - Philippines

3rd Runner up: Pedro Escarda - Philippines

Champion: Azhani Norzaman - Malaysia

1st Runner Up: Muhammad Harith Aiman - Malaysia

2nd Runner Up: Razi “Fakoi” Faizul - Malaysia

3rd Runner Up: Muhammad Faliq - Singapore

We were also fortunate to come across some additional media from our friends at My Life on Board. Check out the news from day 1 and day 2. Michael Eijansantos of My Life on Board also provided us with the screen capture above of the finish line.

Shout out also goes to Jay Mitra of Epic Session Distributions for the rest of the photos.
