The 2011 IGSA Maryhill Festival of Speed was one of the most exiting and controversial races in recent Downhill history. With the rise in popularity of the sport, larger prize purses, and increased competition coming from around the world it seems heats are more and more of a dog fight sometimes. While the Open had its share of questionable race behaviour, protests, and disqualifications, the Women's event was much more civilized, clean racing.
Rayne Team Rider Douglas Dalua has been known for his incredile push, dominant racing, and amazing stoke. He is a man and a legend to not only those in the global longboard community, but to his friends and family at home in Brasil and abroad. This season, Dalua, with the help of Zepplin Films is releasing a 5 part series on his quest for the World Championship. Here's what he had to say...
Rayne Team Rider Spencer Smith came up to British Columbia from Washington State to race in the Britannia Classic 2011 Open and Junior categories. After 2 days of freeriding and dialling in the course, Spencer skated strong in the Open advancing, but later being knocked out. The race of the day for Spencer was definitely the Juniors, with Spencer defending his 2010 Gold Rush Challenge 1st place finish. Moving on through each of his heats, Spencer shred thane from top to bottom, narrowly missing a repeat 1st to podium 2nd. A tough race with a strong finish, Spencer is definitely poised to make podiums all season and will likely press for the top against the Open's best riders.
Welcome back to DH season Spencer, we're stoked!!!
